The De Hoop Nature Reserve consists of 34 000 hectares of Fynbos, sand dunes, stunning beaches, vlei westlands and the Potberg Mountains and sits approx. half way along the famous Garden Route. The reserve is home to over 80 different mammals including the rare bonkebok and cape mountain zebra, and although rare, leopard is also found here.
Some of the best land-based whale watching can be found here, as Southern Right Whales come close to the shores of Walker Bay to breed and calf, however, a total of seven whale species have been seen in the bay.
